Competition Rules
These rules apply to every PencilDrop competition ("drop") and form part of the Terms of Use.
Promoter
The promoter is Rowe Digital Holdings Pty Ltd (ACN 697 515 521) in its capacity as trustee for the Rowe Digital Trust (ABN 13 313 912 737), the developer of PencilDrop. Contact: hello@altdevapps.com.
Apple and Google are not sponsors of, and are not involved in, any PencilDrop competition.
Entry is free
- Entry is free and no purchase is necessary. Every drop can be entered, and every prize and placing won, without paying anything.
- No purchase or subscription improves your chance of winning. A PencilDrop Plus subscription, Ink and watching ads never change how an entry is judged, ranked or rewarded, or whether it can enter. Judges see the artwork and nothing else.
- Ink is never sold on its own, and PencilDrop Plus includes a monthly allowance of it. An avatar page unlocked with Ink or had with Plus is for your profile picture only and is never entered in a drop. No prize item can be bought, with money or with Ink.
- You must be 16 or older and have a PencilDrop account.
- Competitions are void where prohibited by law.
How to enter
- Colour the drop's page in the app and submit it before the drop closes. Closing times are set by our server clock and shown in the app.
- One entry per person per drop. Once your entry is in it cannot be replaced, and withdrawing it does not let you enter that drop again.
- Entries must be coloured in the app on the page provided. Free-draw work cannot be entered.
- Entries must follow the Community Rules. Entries are checked before they appear, and an entry may be withheld while it is reviewed.
How results are decided
- Results are decided by judged merit, not by chance. There is no draw, lottery or random selection of winners.
- Entries are judged by the community through pairwise voting: a judge is shown two entries from the same drop and picks the one they prefer, or says they cannot decide.
- The pairs are chosen by our server so that every entry is seen. You cannot choose which entries you judge.
- A drop may also include entries coloured by us, so that the first people to enter have something to be judged against and pairs to judge. They are judged like any other entry, and a judgement between one of them and your entry counts like any other. They are never ranked or placed themselves, never win points or prizes, and never take up a place in the results.
- Judgements from people who entered the same drop count for more than others, and every judgement is weighted by the judge's account standing. Suspicious judgements are discounted.
- Rankings are calculated from all judgements using a rating model, not a count of votes.
- Results shown while voting is open are provisional.
- Small competitions. When fewer than 25 people enter a drop, pairs of entries are shown to judges as evenly as they can be, and every entry is placed, however many judgements it has. The placings of a small competition may be checked by us before they are published, and we may correct an order the judgements do not support. A drop with a single entry is won by that entry.
Results
- Results are frozen when voting closes. Frozen results do not change, except where an entry is removed for breaking these rules or the Community Rules.
- Entries in the top 100 of a drop are reviewed by a person before any prize is awarded.
- Placed entries are published. The top three entries of each drop are shown on the PencilDrop website's winners' pages, and may be featured in our own social media channels, with the entrant's display name and chosen country and a time-lapse video of the entry being coloured, carrying the PencilDrop watermark. This is part of entering, under the licence in the Terms of Use. An entry that is withdrawn, removed or deleted leaves the website with it.
Points and prizes
- Points and any prizes for each drop are as published in the app for that drop.
- Prizes are digital and in-app only, such as exclusive drops, palettes, brushes, frames, backdrops, badges, titles and Ink. There is no cash alternative and no physical prize.
- Prizes are awarded to your account automatically after results are frozen, and are listed in your Collection in the app with the drop and placing that won them.
- Prizes are non-transferable. They cannot be traded, gifted, sold or exchanged for money, and they stay with the account that won them.
- If an entry is removed, its points, placing and prizes are reversed.
Fair play
Using more than one account, coordinating judgements, automated tools or any other attempt to manipulate results may lead to disqualification and the enforcement steps in the Community Rules.
Changes and law
We may pause, change or cancel a drop if something outside our reasonable control affects it, such as a technical fault or an unsuitable page. If we cancel a drop after entries are made, every entrant receives participation points. These rules are governed by the laws of Australia.
