How it works

How a drop works

Each page is a small contest that runs for a day, a week or a month. You color it, other people judge it, and the results land when it closes.

Step 1

Color the page

There’s a new page every day, a bigger scene every week and a showpiece every month, and everyone gets the same one. Reach for pencil, marker, crayon or airbrush, or tap a shape to fill it. Your color stays inside the lines.

Step 2

Judge a few pairs

You see two entries side by side with the names hidden, and pick the one you like more. Every vote is about the coloring itself, so a first-timer’s page can beat a regular’s.

Step 3

See where you place

Each drop has a global board and one for your country. Climb the season standings, keep your streak alive, and pick up digital prizes when you finish near the top.

Start anywhere

Go as far as you like

Here’s one of our pages, taken three ways. Tap each shape and you’ll have a finished page in minutes. Add some shading on the main shapes and it fills a cozy evening. Plan a palette and a light source, and it turns into a showpiece you’ll want to frame.

The app

Made for Apple Pencil. Happy with a finger.

With a Pencil you get pressure, tilt and hover. With a finger you can tap to fill or color by hand. It works offline, and your drafts follow you to any device once you sign in.

Made for Apple Pencil

Press harder for richer color and tilt to shade. Hover the tip to preview your brush, double-tap for the eraser, and squeeze a Pencil Pro to bring the palette right to your hand.

Judged by people, in pairs

We choose the pairs so every entry gets seen. Votes from people who colored the same page count for more, because they know exactly how tricky that sky was.

Color stays inside the lines

We map every shape on every page before it goes out, so a stroke never spills over an edge and one tap fills a whole shape.

A streak worth keeping

A page a day gives you a reason to pick up the pencil every day. Build a streak, and keep a freeze handy for the day you can’t make it.

Share the making

Turn a finished page into a vertical time-lapse and watch it fill with color from the first stroke. Post it anywhere, and anyone with your link can judge a pair in their browser.

Fair and safe by design

There are no comments and no direct messages, so the art does the talking. If something’s wrong, you can report an entry or block a colorist in two taps.

PencilDrop Plus

Extra brushes and palettes. Same fair contest.

Plus is an optional monthly or yearly subscription that gives you more tools to play with. Everyone competes on the same terms either way.

Entering is free for everyone, and Plus never changes how you’re judged or what you can win. It renews automatically until you cancel it in your App Store or Google Play settings.

  • No ads, and no ad software running in the background
  • Ink to spend in the shop each paid month
  • A Plus Edition palette, frame or backdrop with each paid month, yours to keep
  • Three new Studio pages a week to color for yourself
  • The chisel and watercolor brushes
  • 6 more palettes, plus room to save your own
  • 20 draft slots instead of 5, unlimited room for your finished art, and the whole archive
  • Longer time-lapses, with the watermark optional

Questions

Good questions

The things people ask us most, answered.

What is PencilDrop?

PencilDrop is a coloring app for adults with a daily art contest built in. Every day there’s a new line-art page and everyone colors the same one. You enter your finished page, other people judge the entries two at a time without seeing names, and the results land when the drop closes.

Is PencilDrop free?

Yes. The app, every page and every contest are free. PencilDrop Plus is an optional subscription with extra brushes, palettes and draft slots, and it never changes how you’re judged or what you can win.

What devices can I use?

Your iPad, tablet or phone. PencilDrop runs on iPad and iPhone, and on Android tablets and phones. It shines with an Apple Pencil, which gives you pressure, tilt and hover, but a finger works well too: tap a shape to fill it, or color by hand.

Does PencilDrop work with an S Pen or another stylus?

Yes. PencilDrop uses the Apple Pencil on iPad, and on Android the S Pen and any other pen your tablet recognizes as a stylus, with pressure, tilt and hover wherever the pen reports them. Any other stylus, a rubber-tipped one say, works like a finger: tap a shape to fill it, or color by hand.

How does the judging work?

Judges see two entries from the same drop side by side, with no names, and pick the one they like more. We choose the pairs so every entry gets seen, and votes from people who colored the same page count for more. Each entry’s rating comes from all of those comparisons, and the results are final when judging closes.

What can I win?

Points toward the season standings, a spot on the leaderboards, and digital prizes such as exclusive pages, palettes, brushes, frames, backdrops, badges, titles and Ink. Prizes live in the app and have no cash value. The top three of every drop also get their time-lapse on our winners’ page.

Can I print the coloring pages?

Yes. When a drop closes, its page joins our free coloring pages as a printable file. Print as many copies as you like for yourself; please don’t sell the files or share them elsewhere.

Who makes the coloring pages?

We draw our line art with AI image generation, our own software turns it into clean outlines you can color, and a person checks every page before it’s published.

Who is PencilDrop for?

Anyone 16 or older who loves to color. Some people tap-fill a page in ten minutes on the bus, and others spend a whole evening shading one. There’s room for both.
